Ever wonder what goes on in a recording studio? Ever wonder what it takes to turn a song idea into reality?
Just keep checking back here to get a glimpse of life in a windowless room, surrounded by guitars, drums, and other
cool toys! And if you want to know anything in more detail (studio tricks and methods) just e-mail me.
Here's a
sample of the kind of things I might post in my studio diary:
MAY 15, 2003: Lot's of irons in the fire right now, including a whole new batch of songs which will be released
this summer. The songs are entering the final mixdown phase next week. Look for a preview on MP3.com soon.
DEC. 7, 2001: Uploaded backing tracks for a new song. This one is a whole new type of project - a collaborative effort
between me and a Californian named Vincent Leeds.
NOV, 2001: Final overdubs and mixes for the album... and this time
I mean FINAL!
JULY 12, 2001: Started final mixdowns for the songs. First to be put 'in the can' are 'Beautiful When
You Cry' and 'Meet The Artist'.
JULY 7, 2001: Guest vocalist today... Bryan Wilson, adding some backing vox to 'Fade
Away'. Good luck in Phoenix, Bryan.
JULY 3, 2001: Added guitar solos and feedback to 'Look At Me'. I used a really
small amplifier turned WAY up to get the awesome, full-bodied feedback growls on this one.
APRIL 17, 2001: Added hand
percussion to 'Headtrip', and 'Asphalt and Glasses'. Also, added celeste (a bell-like instrument' to 'Asphalt and Glasses'.
Filtered out some of the extreme low frequencies from 'Winter Opened My Eyes'.
APRIL 2, 2001: Built up the 'dramatic'
opening sequence which will begin 'Skyhouse and Scarlet'.... Great fun, and 'thanks' go to Danny for the occasional, disembodied
voice.
MARCH 29, 2001: Added piano overdubs to "Winter Opened My Eyes", and cleaned up the drum sound on "Fade".
MARCH
26, 2001: Added percussion and piano overdubs to "Fade".
MARCH 23, 2001: Completed the first rough mix of Skyhouse
and Scarlet. It is over 63 minutes long (hmmmm... may need to tighten things up), and it's finally starting to come together.
This mix (version 0.1) will be used to start evaluating where each song stands (ie. what overdubs/edits need to be done).
